The following years would see him expand the EASTPAK range into safety equipment and clothing. 

But Goldman’s EASTPAK only saw true success when his son Mark joined the company in 1976. Fresh out of college, the freethinking pianist brought a new sense of energy, vision and direction to the company. While studying at university, he noticed that the “cool” students weren’t carrying briefcases around anymore but army issue bags. What he noticed, in other words, was a gaping big hole in the market. His dad took a bit of convincing, but in the end he gave the green light for a trial production run and so Mark set off for a Chicago trade fair in 1977 with the first range of backpacks, duffels and shoulder bags for the fashion/student market. When the first flurry of orders started to flow in, Mark knew he was onto a winner.

Since those early days EASTPAK has continued to be a visionary in the backpack and school bag market. Still offering the ‘lifetime warranty’ on its core products, and increasing its market share in lifestyle clothing. Musicians, artists and celebrities around the world have now embraced EASTPAK and the iconic logo branding can be seen in every college and university in the country.
