Founded in 1990 ROXY Is the little sister to the Quicksilver brand. Answering to the call of female surfers who simply wanted a practical yet fashionable clothing range, they launched a ROXY swimwear collection that was embraced the world over. The fact that ROXY had being created by an authentic surf brand made it inspiring for both retailers and female surfers alike. It was the first of its kind on the market and soon many other surf brands followed.
By 1993 ROXY was on a roll; fully embraced by the surf and sports world ROXY continued to grow by introducing a ROXY fashion collection. This included ranges that where both technical, practical, and yet very on trend. The ROXY logo was introduced around this time also, a heart-shaped crest created by mirroring the famous Quicksilver logo.
Legend has it that one afternoon in Hawaii, the ROXY crews were sitting on the beach watching the surf when they came up with the idea of a women’s board short. This short was to offer fit and flexibility while still managing to be feminine; this was to be an innovation that would change the women’s surf market forever. It was also the perfect example of what the ROXY brand originally set out to be. In the words of Quicksilver’s 1990 Annual Report: "Fun, Bold, Athletic, Daring and Classy". The board short became a huge trend. ROXY, and women's surfing along with it, was suddenly the next big thing.
Not willing to simply sit back and enjoy the success of what now had become a well-established brand in the mark place, ROXY continued to push boundary’s by introducing the first ever women’s pro surfing event at Sunset Beach, Oahu’s North Shore. This too was a great achievement, and still continues each year and remains one of the most prestigious and exciting ASP World Championship surf events of the year. Naturally other events followed including the ROXY Pro Fiji, the ROXY Pro Gold Coast (Australia), and the ROXY Jam UK and so the surf story continues.
